Introduction:
The centre started on 1 November, 1988 as pilot project for control and prevention of Rheumatic fever and Rheumatic heart diseases with support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It was absorbed in the revenue budget of MOH&FW in 1993-94 and renamed as ‘National Centre for Control of Rheumatic Fever and Heart Diseases’. A National Centre for Control of Rheumatic Fever and Heart Diseases has been established to implement the second phase of the project. It expanded its activities targeting to prevent and treat heart diseases due to Rheumatic Fever.
Activities
- Service Delivery- Diagnosis, treatment and follow up of RF cases and screening & treatment of other heart diseases and risk factors through outpatient clinical & laboratory services.
- Research- Epidemiological research, RF registry, Cardiac risk factors like Obesity, HTN, DM, NCDs.
- Training- short courses for doctors and other health personnel on prevention, management and epidemiology of RF, RHD and other heart diseases.
